"...occasionally, someone joins the team with a natural flair and thoughtful approach to interpretation. Michal Rachlin is someone I would place among that elite corps, the ones who appear to be born to the role." ~ Pete Yancone, Director of Education

Public Programmer, Maryland Science Center
Baltimore MD July 2006 – January 2007 (intern); January 2007 – July 2008 (staff)

The Maryland Science Center was my second museum internship. Originally planned as a three-month internship with the Director of Education, it was successful enough to be extended to six months, followed by hiring on with Public Programs.
During my internship, I circulated throughout the Education department programs and sat in on several administrative planning meetings. I taught a classroom program, What's Cold, What's Hot, What's Solid, What's Not, observed and helped set up several Traveling Science Program shows and SuperKids summer camp classes, assisted in animal caretaking, and developed/evaluated an on-floor hands-on demonstration on electrical resistance using recently released PicoCricket® software.
Upon hiring on, my work focused on the domains of Public Programs: on-floor interaction, live on-stage demo shows, and on-floor hands-on demonstrations. I created a live demo show on the brain and assisted with a SciCamp PicoCricket class for ages 8-12.
